people willingly take this stuff?

so i was doing a little research to see what foods contain EDTA (that really long organic compound used as a food preservative) and i came across this interesting article...

apparently some people take EDTA as a part of chelation therapy. the EDTA is typically in a pill form. the users believe it helps prevent atherosclerosis (which is when fat lines the walls of the arteries and potentially closes off the artery) and the people use this therapy as an alternative from coronary bypass surgery (taking a piece of an artery or vein *typically in the leg* that is not as important and creating an alternate route for the blood around the blockage). there is no scientific evidence to prove that this actually works. it is also used to treat lead or mercury poisoning... or at least the people believe that they have some sort of toxic metal in their system and take EDTA as a remedy...

the article is rather interesting, if you want to read the rest of it, here's the link.
